Individual Number (nicknamed “My Number”) is 12-digit numbers assigned to individuals living in Japan under the Social Security and Tax Number System. It is used in the fields of social security, tax, and disaster response. The System serves as a social infrastructure to increase administrative transparency.
Foreigners registered as residents in Japan (medium-term residents, special permanent residents, etc.) will also receive their Individual Number.
● My Number Card is a plastic card that contains an IC chip, the bearer’s name, the bearer’s information, the Individual Number, and an ID photograph. It can be used as an identification card for identity verification.
● My Number Card is not necessary when you just present your Individual Number because the Notification letter serves the purpose.

The Individual Number is used for the following 3 purposes; social security, tax, and disaster control. The situations in which the JETs need to show your Individual Number are;
● You have to submit your Individual Number for the tax and insurance
● International money transfer
Such institutions like schools or banks sometimes require you to submit a photocopy of a copy of Residence Certification (住民票) with your Individual Number (My Number).
You have to keep your Individual Number by keeping your Notification Letter or Plastic My Number Card. However, you can find your Individual Number to acquire your copy of Resident Certification (住民票). The municipal office of Minoh, the Toyokawa branch, and the Todoromi branch provide it. Their business hours are;
● The city office of Minoh 8:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. on Monday to Saturday (Just some windows are open on Saturday)
● The Toyokawa branch 8:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. on Monday to Friday
● The Todoromi branch 8:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. on Monday to Friday
