It is likely that your card got demagnetized. As long as your IC chip card works properly, making a “balance inquiry” at an ATM annexed to an SMBC branch, would fix the problem automatically. Another possibility is that you unintentionally input the wrong PIN more than a certain number of times and your cash card has been locked out as a safety measure. In this case, you need to visit SMBC to reissue your cash card. MAFGA will accompany you if requested. It takes 7-10 days to receive it. During those days you don’t have your card, but you can still withdraw cash over the bank counter with your hanko.
